[Variety introduction 02] Vidal

"Vidal" is a type of white grape that is mainly grown in North America. It is used to produce a wide range of high-quality wines, from fresh and structured white wines to sweet late-harvest wines and icewines. This time, we will introduce Vidal.

Versatile and fruity

Vidal is soft, has a round mouthfeel, is rich in fruitiness, and is easy to drink with a refined sweetness.

●White wine (dry ~ off-dry)
Light bodied, soft and gently fruity,
with aromas and flavors of sweet apple, peach, lemon and flowers.

Icewine, late harvest wine
luscious and exotic taste. Aromas and flavors of pineapple, apricot, honey, tropical fruits and caramel.

A popular variety for icewine

Vidal is a hybrid variety of grapes native to Europe and America. It is the main variety for icewine because of its thick skin and cold resistance.

Food that goes well with

The sweetness of the wine brings out the fruitiness and gives it a more smooth and rich taste. Therefore, if you pair it with a dish that is sweeter than Vidal, the sweetness and fruitiness of the wine will decrease, and in some cases it may even taste sour. White wines and orange wines made from Vidal go beautifully with yakitori topped with lots of shichimi, complexly seasoned Chinese food, and spicy curry.

Icewine goes well with fruits such as apples, peaches, and mangoes, as well as with lemon and cream-based desserts such as custard. It can also be enjoyed as an aperitif with aged cream cheese or blue cheese.
